A trip to New York from Boston
Have not written for a long time, could not find the time. Blogging takes a long time, no matter how funny it may seem.
The idea to go to one of the most famous cities, not only the US but also the world, did not just happen. It was necessary to solve some cases in the consulate of Ukraine. There were several options to get to New York from Boston. By plane, bus, train or car.The plane was flying fast, but expensive and not acceptable flights were for us, since they let go of work only for one day.The train is expensive, and it rides almost as much as the car, but with comfort. There remained a car and a bus. Since I was in Ukraine not a great car enthusiast, I decided to persuade my wife to go by car.
We decided to leave at night, about 12 a. m. The road, the so-called highways, go mostly bypassing big cities, fast, good. At night it was still hard to go, fell asleep, did just one stop to buy coffee and go to the toilet. In general, the road was 5-6 hours. On the way, there was only one incident, the policeman stopped for driving in the far left red (high-speed row), but had an oral warning)
Since riding in New York is very different from Boston, and in general it differs from any state, they travel here just like in the CIS countries, everyone is in a hurry, everyone is violating, and even the police do not pay much attention to this, we accidentally drove into Manhattan himself. In my foreword, we quickly escaped from there, and for good reason, at 6 o'clock in the morning, towards Manhattan stood a traffic that did not move.
The car decided to leave in the "bandit" Bronx, although for me it's quite such a pleasant area, on a paid guarded parking lot. The parking cost about 8 dollars for 12 hours. Very democratic price for New York.
Went to look for the subway in the direction of Manhattan, believe in this subway it's better not to get ...... Kyiv, Moscow or Boston subway, children's babbling .. I had to ask the police for help. It is worth a bit more expensive than Boston (3 USD).
It was necessary to get to the downtown of Manhattan.
Coming out of the subway immediately fell into the very center of life of this metropolis. The city is dirty, drivers rudely violate the rules of road traffic, pedestrians go to red everywhere and everywhere, skyscrapers so much that it seems, they put pressure on their heads. in general, the horror, not the city. In movies, it is much more attractive.
Looking ahead, after visiting New York for the second time, I realized that if you do not switch to red pedestrians, then to the destination you'll arrive 2 hours later. Traffic lights at every intersection, but there are a lot of them.
Having finished their business at approximately 12:00 AM, they decided to go for a walk around the city, since there were still about 5-6 hours. We thought we'd bypass a lot of everything, as it turned out, "dreamed". The closest thing was the Chrysler Building and Central Park, so they went there.
Having reached the central park, looking at its size, we felt a little uneasy. But at that moment a guy ran up to us, and on purely Russian began to offer bike tours, bicycles for hire, excursions on horses (carriages). It turned out to negotiate a discount of 50%. And pay instead of $ 120, 50% + tip, for a tour. on a bicycle-coach. The guide was also a Russian-speaking (Armenian), very cool guy who told and showed everything.
The excursion lasted about 1 hour 30 minutes. There are a lot of things in the park, I think the Internet is full of information about it. The park is huge, it stretches from downtown to Harlem (the most gangster district in New York). From the main: a huge fountain in the lake, where you can ride a boat, a bridge where you constantly admit to love and ask for your hands and hearts, the arch under the bridge where they sing and play live music, monuments, lawns, etc. Excursion by the way paid for after the end, trust.
There were many plans, but the forces left us when we left the park. At that time, I had not slept for 35+ hours for my wife a little less. We decided to go back to the car, leave a little and go back to Boston. Again the fucking metro, again lost their way. No matter how funny it sounded, but yes, in our time in New York, with phones, you can get lost.
After a few hours in the car, they drove back to Boston. The way back took a little longer. In total, the trip cost $ 25-35 petrol, $ 25 tolls.
General impression: We did not like the city.
